What is Wipro?

Wipro is an Indian multinational corporation, based in the Information Technology business.

But did you know what does Wipro stand for? 

It stands for “Western Indian Products”. Wipro is well named in the IT business.

Originally Wipro was set up to manufacture vegetable and refined oil. Wipro was founded by Mohamed Premji, on 29th December 1945. This means Wipro has been around for 75 years. Wipro’s headquarters is located in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. During the 1980’s Wipro shifted its focus towards the IT and computer industry. 

What Did Wipro Do in the ’90s?

In 1988 Wipro started making mobile hydraulic cylinders and heavy-duty industrial cylinders. Wipro, an Indian company made a joint venture with General Electric, a company of the United States, with the name of Wipro GE Medical Systems Pvt Ltd.

This was set up in 1989, This company Wipro GE Medical Systems Pvt Ltd. Manufactured, sale and serviced diagnostic and imaging products.

In 1990, The “Santoor” talcum powder and “Wipro Baby Soft” range of baby supplies were launched by the company. In 1991, Wipro Company launched tipping systems and Eaton hydraulic products. In 1992, the Wipro Fluid Power division developed the capability to offer standard hydraulic cylinders for construction equipment and truck tipping systems.

In 1995, Wipro made Odyssey 21 an overseas design centre for the projects of overseas clients. Wipro Infotech and Wipro Systems were combined with Wipro in April of 1995. Wipro’s five manifested products and developments facilities secured the ISO 9001 certification during 1994-95.

In 1999, Wipro made Wipro Acer, release new products like Wipro SuperGenius Personal Computers (PCs).

 

What Were the Recent Accomplishments of Wipro in 5 years?

In 2017 Wipro company won a five-year IT infrastructure and applications managed services engagement with Grameenphone (GP). In 2018, the company started building software to help General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In 2019 Wipro customer care and Ang-Hortaleza Corporation signed a share purchase agreement for the sale of 100% of the latter’s stake in the personal care business Splash Corporation.

In 2020 Wipro joined Hedera, to provide decentralized governance to its hash graph distributed ledger technology. In the same year 2020, Wipro acquired Rational Interaction. Also, Wipro has shifted its work from anywhere model since March 2020, so Wipro employees can work from anywhere except Wipro office premises. In July of 2020, Wipro launched 5G edge services solutions built with IBM software systems.

In 2021 Wipro acquired Capco (a British tech consultancy firm). And in June of the same year, Wipro acquired Boeing supplier TECT Aerospace Group Holding.

• Original mark sheet of both 10 and 12 board exams, graduation exams and postgraduate (only if you have completed post-graduation) certificates.
