Oracle Database Versions
This
database system is simple to use for both database administrators and
developers to design creative applications for their corporate operations. The
Oracle brand is well-known for its ongoing commitment to the development of
enhanced features to better assist small and big enterprises with their data
management needs. The most recent Oracle versions are 11G, 12C, 18C, and 19C.
Differences between Oracle Database Versions
Version 11G
Oracle
Database 11G or Version 11G is an earlier iteration of the Oracle database
versions, having been released in 2008. There are no pluggable databases in
this RDBMS. This Oracle version is thought to be relatively simple to set up,
develop, and maintain. It provides a user-friendly browser-based interface with
built-in database change testing. This is a valuable feature that was missing
in prior Oracle versions.
Tables may
be seen backwards in time with version 11G. It also compresses all data more
effectively. This feature allows you to execute reports more faster because the
process takes up less disc space. This edition featured the coveted SQL
developer, a graphical user interface tool that allows developers to query,
create, and manipulate data more effectively.
Version 12C
Oracle
officially introduced Version 12C, the first in the C series, in 2014. Because
it's the first version of Oracle intended to function on the Cloud, it's
labelled with a C rather than a G. Businesses may easily migrate their existing
Oracle database information to the Cloud using this Oracle version. The Oracle
Database now contains 500 new features in version 12C. The pluggable databases
and multitenant architecture are the most significant characteristics.
Version 18C
Oracle 18C
is the most recent version to be published as a stand-alone database. This
self-driving database secures and repairs itself. Version 18C is available
on-premises or on the Oracle cloud. Based on its release year of 2018, this
version has begun a new Oracle version naming structure. As a result, there are
no discharges between 12 and 18 degrees Celsius.
Version 19C
The 19C, the
most recent Oracle version, was launched in early January 2019. It has been
designated as the long-term release for the Oracle database 12.2 product
family. This version will be maintained through the year 2023, with extended
support possible until the year 2026.
Benefits of Upgrading to version 19C
Upgrading to
the most recent Oracle version has several advantages for your company. One of
the most important is that Oracle's lifetime support commitment only applies to
the most recent version of their software. If you don't update from an earlier
version, your support will expire, and your company will be without Oracle help
for any difficulties that arise.
The second
reason is that newer operating systems are only compatible with newer database
applications. Some earlier Oracle versions aren't compatible with the newer
operating systems that your company is likely to use. You'll have problems
upgrading your operating systems if you don't continue to upgrade your database
version.
Finally, you
must think about security. As with any technology, the most recent version is
always the safest. This is because the developers look back at prior versions
to see if there were any security vulnerabilities. Then, in their most recent
update, they address these issues, making it even safer for the user.
Which is the latest oracle database version?
The latest
long-term release, Oracle Database 19c, offers the greatest level of release
stability and the longest timeframe for support and issue patches. Oracle
Database 21c, which is also ready for production usage as an innovation release
today, gives you a sneak peek at the numerous new features and upgrades.
