Apple announces iPadOS 16, the next version of its iPad operating system.
Apple has unveiled iPadOS 16, the next version of its iPad operating system.
With this
year's iPadOS update, multitasking gets a big increase, but only if you have an
iPad with an M1 CPU. Apple's Stage Manager functionality, which was first
introduced in macOS Ventura, is now available in iPadOS 16, allowing programmes
to be shown as windows that may overlap and be dragged and dropped into place.
It can take
use of an external monitor's increased screen real estate (resolutions up to 6K
are supported) and can display up to eight apps at once (four on the iPad
itself, and four on the external display).
In a lengthy
demonstration, Apple demonstrated its cooperation tools. In-office tools like
Pages, you can start collaborating right from the share sheet, allowing other
users to hop in and start making adjustments to a central page. It sounds
similar to what Google has previously offered in services such as Docs and
Sheets.
Participants
in a Messages conversation will be notified when a shared file is changed,
according to Apple. According to Apple's news release, "Files, Keynote,
Numbers, Pages, Notes, Reminders, and Safari" are among the applications
featuring collaboration and new sharing options, and the firm is also providing
an API for developers to add comparable functionality to their own apps.
There's also
a new whiteboard software called Freeform, which allows coworkers to
collaborate on a shared canvas. It works with Apple Pencil and can import PDF
documents, pictures, and web URLs, among other file kinds. Freeform will
premiere later this year.
