GOOGLE TO OPEN ITS FIRST PHYSICAL STORE IN NEW YORK!
New
York City will get a Google Store: Its First Physical Outlet Will Open This
Summer
Google has copied Apple's strategy of opening
physical stores and offering in-person services to promote sales.
Google, owned by Alphabet, announced on
Thursday that it will build its first physical shop in New York City this
summer, mimicking Apple's retail strategy, which has helped the company earn
billions of dollars in the previous two decades.
The Google Store will be located in the city's Chelsea
neighbourhood, close to the company's New York City headquarters, which
employs over 11,000 people.
Google said it will sell Pixel smartphones, Pixelbook laptops, Fitbit
fitness trackers, and Nest smart home gadgets in the retail
location, as it has done in the past to promote its goods.
HIGHLIGHTS
· The
Google Store will be located in the Chelsea neighbourhood of New York City.
· Customers
will be able to get customer support for their gadgets. Google hosted its
annual Google I/O keynote presentation
yesterday.
· Customers
will be able to get customer support for their devices as well as pick up their
online orders from the shop.
The news indicates that Google has borrowed a page
from Apple's playbook by opening physical store-fronts and offering in-person
services to promote sales.
Apple, which established its first two
retail locations in Virginia in 2001, now has 270 stores in the United States
and many more around the world, all of which boost sales and give hands-on customer
care to customers.
In addition to the two major product announcements,
Google announced its progress in bringing natural language understanding with a
new language model called LaMDA at its annual Google I/O
keynote event, where CEO Sundar Pichai and his team of executives announced a
list of new developments, including the release of Android 12 and the new Wear
OS.
This year's Google I/O presentation also included
announcements about a smart canvas experience in Google Workspace, better
routing in Google Maps, and Project Starline, an improved video conferencing
project.
